The still images from animation that I chose are from the popular television show Family Guy. Both of these images have completely different qualities.  For color, the first image has a different hue than the second image. The first image uses a lot of different shades of a lighter blue while the second image has more green. Both of these images do use blue, which is in the same hue. The brightness (also value) on the images is also different. The first image is much brighter and uses brighter blues and lighter colors in general. This is because the room is supposed to be lit up which makes it brighter than the nighttime of the second picture. The second image has a darker blue, dark green, and a lot of darker colors to show the darkness of nighttime. The second image has a better saturation than the first image. In the first image the colors seem to be a little more washed out even though they are brighter. The second image has bold colors that do not seem as washed out. Another part of the image is the lighting. The first image has shadow while the second one does not. In the first image you can see the shadow of the two characters on each of their pillow as opposed to the second image where it is nighttime so no shadows can be seen. The moods of the images are also different. The first image is lighter and the two characters are sitting there about to go to sleep either knitting or reading. There is nothing heavy in this image unlike the second one. That scene clearly has a dark mood to it because there is a gun and it is pointed at someone. Clearly there is something bad going to happen in this image. This also works with symbolism because the first image is just showing that they are having a quiet time and going to sleep and nothing is really happening. The second image clearly has had something happen and someone is going to pay for it. 

Blog Assignment #5

The scene I chose is where Rose saves Jack when he is handcuffed to the pipe in the movie Titanic. The director uses the rule of thirds in a lot of scenes. One shot is where Jack is first calling out for help when he sees the water rushing into the room he is handcuffed in. Jack is shown on the left of the screen with a little room on the left and a lot on the right, exhibiting the rule of thirds. That shot is seen again about 10 sec later after a series of shots of the water coming up the stairs and in the hallway. Another shot where the rule of thirds is shown is when Rose is running down the hallway to find the room Jack is in. She is seen in the hallway but there seems to be more room on the right side than the left and is only taking up a third of the area. The 30 rule is also exhibited in this particular scene. In a lot of shots Jack is seen in a close up but then they zoom out and the viewer is able to see that he is still handcuffed to the pipe. The same thing happens to Rose when she is running down the hallway. There is a close up on her, then a further away shot, and then it returns to a close up of her. The 180 degree rule is definitely used in this scene. When Jack is being shown the room it is easy to tell that the camera only moves back and forth and cannot go to the other side. This is because the other side would technically be outside of the ship and in the water and behind the wall of the Titanic. This rule must be exhibited whenever Jack is shown in the room he is stuck in.

The two songs, Sunday Morning by Maroon 5 and Moves like Jagger by Maroon 5 are very different but also very similar. For the lyrics, they are obviously different because they are different songs but they both have to do with love. Moves like Jagger has more lyrics that sound like a love related song while Sunday Morning has lyrics that can be interpreted. The melodies of the two songs are different as well. Sunday Morning has more of a slow toned down melody that sounds kind of sad when the rest of the song is taken out of it. Moves Like Jagger has more of an upbeat melody and sounds more fun than the other song. Both songs have good rhythm and rhythm that repeats throughout the song. The intensity of the songs seem to be different because Sunday Morning is kind of a lower intensity by being a softer song. The other song has a higher intensity because it seems to be louder and more of an excited song. Both songs have a high pitch and have loud whistles or a high-pitched part in it. The timbre is also different in each song. Moves Like Jagger seems to be very complex with a lot of different instruments and is harder to follow. Sunday Morning is a little bit simpler and less difficult to follow along with. Also, speed is definitely different. The speed in Moves Like Jagger is a lot faster than Sunday Morning and has a faster tempo. Sunday Morning is more of a slow song with emphasis on the slowish piano in the song. The organizations of the two songs are almost identical. Since they are both by the same artist it is much more likely that they will have the same structure. They both use Verse 1/Chorus/Verse 2/Chorus/Bridge/Chorus. Personally, I like both songs but Moves Like Jagger stands out to me more. I enjoy the more upbeat tune and how the song has cool instrumentation and that it is more complex.

Scene from Titanic when Rose is trying to axe the handcuffs that are preventing Jack from leaving the room so he can get to safety.

This scene uses a lot of different techniques for sound. The listening modes that are used are casual and semantic sounds. The casual sound is used when you can see the water and can hear the water flowing into the room. The semantic sound is when you don’t see the water, but can hear it. The space that is used in this scene is a deep space. The sound of the water flowing can be heard through the hall and there is an echo. This creates the deep space. There is also space heard in movement. When Rose wades through the water, the movement of the water is heard. The Gestalt Principle is used when Rose is calling for Jack, and the camera and sound is focused on Jack, not Rose. It also uses the illusion that water is actually flowing through the room. For time, speed is used by the fact that Rose looks like she is moving slower than is sounds like she is when she is wading through the water. Also, you can hear the water flowing in faster than it actually is. Also, habituation is used because the viewer is watching the scene unfold, but they are also focused on the fact that room is going to be overcome with water by the sound of it flowing into the room. All of these sounds are used to help make the scene even more realistic.

The first story that Flaum references to is one about a wolf who is trying to get his "howl" back after being help captive for so long. He has to go through a lot of things just so his family will survive and so they will be able to eat. The story says to find your so-called “howl” you may have to sacrifice a lot, but it will be worth it in the end. This has a lot to do with me because I would do anything for my friends and family.

Oh, the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss can be considered a poem and a story. This speaks to me as a creative person because it basically tells you that you can be whatever you want and no one can stop you. While you may have people that try to stop you from doing what you believe in, no can keep you from it. This may not apply to every aspect of life but it applies to most. A quote that relates to this is “You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” That quote shows that YOU are the one that gets to chose what direction you want to go in, and no one else can have a say in it. This relates to the Wolf story in Find Your Howl because the wolf has to sacrifice a lot to try and find his “howl” and will do anything to get it. He also has to sacrifice a lot so he and his family will be able to eat. He had to pay a price by killing the deer but it was necessary.

I have always loved this poem. Not just for the meaning behind it, but because both of my parents always read it to me. Whenever I have somewhere new to go that is big in my life, I think about them telling me that I can be whatever I want to be. This poem also shows my creative side because it is a simple poem and I do not have a lot of creativity. Most of the creative works I do are simple but have a lot of meaning to them. Although I may be simple, sometimes I am hard to figure out, just like this poem and the Find Your Howl story. The Find Your Howl story is kind of confusing but once you figure it out you can find a lot of meaning in it. The story also has to do with freedom. This compares to Oh, the Places You'll Go because that can also be about getting freedom by going where you want to go. There are always times when you will mess up when you are on your own. You may not always find your way at first, but eventually, if you keep trying your best, you will get to where you want to be. I think that is the main idea behind this Dr. Seuss poem/story.
